SITE LOCATION: |
Aviation hangar located in Columbus, Georgia |
CONTAMINATION: |
Three monitor wells, including one well located within the hangar, contained (Jet A) aviation fuel at a maximum combined (aggregate) thickness of 0.79 feet. The LNAPL had persisted since the investigation commenced seven years prior. |
HYDROGEOLOGY: |
Groundwater was present at depths of 6 to 9 feet in a silty to clayey sand (see cross-section below). |
PLUME DESCRIPTION: |
The Jet A LNAPL plume measured approximately 80 feet x 130 feet. Approximately 75% of the LNAPL plume was beneath the hangar (see plume map below). |
PRIOR REMEDIAL EFFORTS: |
Soil excavation and numerous mobile dual-phase/multi-phase extraction events had been conducted at this site. |
SURFAC® EFFECTIVENESS: |
Five days of SURFAC® were conducted in March/April 2007. SURFAC® completely removed the LNAPL, resulting in SITE CLOSURE. |
